What is CWA 9588?

CWA 9588 is a Local Union that is apart of the national Communication Workers of America. The Communication Workers of America roots were established in 1938 after the Wagner Act disbanded company-run committees (company unions/pseudo-unions) and the National Federation of Telephone Workers established themselves. In 1947 after a failed strike with AT&T the Federation reorganized as the Communication Workers of America. Since it’s establishment CWA has become the largest media union in the United States representing over 700,000 members.

CWA 9588 is one of the 1200 Locals that make up the Communication Workers of America and we were established in 1972 in Colton California. Their first unit were the workers of General Telephone & Electronics Company (GTE). Since then workers in that unit have worked for Verizon and now Frontier Communications. We have also represented Dispatchers, Hospital Workers, Substitute Teachers, and other Public sectors in the Inland Empire.

Today, we represent workers across all departments of Frontier Communications in the Inland Empire, from West Covina to Coachella Valley and as far south as the Temecula Valley, as well as Substitute Teachers for Rialto and San Bernardino School Districts. If you’d like to be represented by CWA Local 9588, please reach out to us.
