American Federation of Musicians - Local 47 Bargaining Update
CWA representatives, along with all members of the AFM bargaining unit, have been in contract negotiations with the American Federation of Musicians Local 47 since late August. First contracts are often the most challenging to negotiate, as they require building an agreement from the ground up. Progress at the table has been slow, particularly on key issues such as wages and job security.
The bargaining unit originally consisted of eight members but has since been reduced to three, as the Local 47 board stated that budget constraints required a reduction in headcount.
Additionally, the current president of Local 47 did not seek reelection, which will result in a change in AFM representation at the bargaining table. We are currently awaiting an update on future bargaining dates to continue negotiations.
To date, more than 35 proposals have been exchanged across the table, and tentative agreements have been reached on 19 of them, including provisions related to pensions, healthcare, vacations, and other benefits.
We remain hopeful that, in the near future, we can reach agreement on the remaining 26 proposals that are still open.
