#SaveThePost
In one of the most severe cuts the newspaper’s ever seen, The Washington Post announced that it would be laying off a third of its staff, eliminating hundreds of jobs — including our union siblings represented by The NewsGuild-CWA.
“If Jeff Bezos is no longer willing to invest in the mission that has defined this paper for generations and serve the millions who depend on Post journalism, then The Post deserves a steward that will,” The Washington Post Guild said in a statement.
For those in D.C., you can join CWA members and community supporters for a local #SaveThePost rally on Thursday, Feb 5th at 12PM ET. The rally will be held at 1301 K St. NW (the WaPo building). Bring your friends and a pair of hand-warmers!
Following the rally, join The NewsGuild-CWA at 2:30PM ET for a short solidarity and action meeting to make calls to Washington Post’s CEO and elected officials in support of Washington Post workers. Register here.
Can’t make either? The NewsGuild-CWA has also launched a letter-writing campaign to tell Post owner Jeff Bezos, publisher Will Lewis and executive editor Matt Murray that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Workers have already sent over 5,000 letters.
