Pledge to Boycott REI
Brothers and Sisters,
REI workers are fighting for a fair first contract. This is often the hardest part of an organizing campaign where companies refuse to bargain in good faith and in about half of the elections where workers win a union, they are unable to secure a first contract. That’s why we all need to stand with REI workers!
After a full week of bargaining in Chicago, REI has refused to move off its January “last, best, and final offer”—the same proposal workers overwhelmingly rejected. In response, workers are escalating with a national boycott from May 15–25 to apply public and economic pressure.
So it’s time for union members and allies to support these workers by withholding our dollars and showing REI that customers care about how workers are treated.
Beginning Friday, May 15, and going all the way through Monday, May 25, we are calling on you to boycott REI. That means no shopping in REI stores or online.
This boycott campaign is about more than REI. It’s about whether companies like REI can stall, impose concessions or wait out workers, or whether the broader labor movement will step in and shift the balance.
A visible, coordinated boycott, backed by California union members across the state, will send a clear message that when workers fight, the entire labor movement will have their back.
You can also support REI workers by joining a leafleting action at a local REI store and by spreading word of the boycott in your community. You can find more information on leafleting actions by clicking here.
Together, we can send a message to REI that the California Labor Movement stands with REI workers, now and always.
In Solidarity,
