UC Workers on Strike May 14th! Stand w/ AFSCME 3299
On May 14th, 42,000 University of California Service & Patient Care workers are entering an open-ended strike. This is coming after two years without a contract, multiple strikes, and continued bad faith bargaining.
The UC Riverside picket line will be located at 900 University Ave, from 8 AM to 1 PM.
Some statistics to keep in mind:
UC is California’s second-largest employer and healthcare provider.
UC workers have been priced out of housing markets where they work. Nearly 80 % of AFSCME workers cannot afford a one-bedroom apartment close to work, leaving many to sleep in our cars, endure multi-hour commutes, rely on public housing, live in homeless shelters, and have to choose between life-saving care or rent.
UC executives get millions of dollars in bonuses and hundreds of millions of dollars in housing assistance every year. AFSCME 3299 members DO NOT.
Make no mistake: workers have courageously chosen to take this heavy sacrifice because the University of California left them no other choice. This strike's focus is on affordable healthcare, job security, wages that keep up with inflation, and expanding the housing assistance that UC gives to its highest paid employees.
