This is often the hardest part of an organizing campaign where companies refuse to bargain in good faith and in about half of the elections where workers win a union, they are unable to secure a first contract. On May 14th, 42,000 University of California Service & Patient Care workers are entering an open-ended strike. This is coming after two years without a contract, multiple strikes, and continued bad faith bargaining.
Workers Memorial Day at Lopez Urban Farm
On Tuesday, April 28, Local 9588 members joined the community at Lopez Urban Farm in Pomona to recognize Workers Memorial Day, a day to honor workers who have been killed, injured, or made sick on the job, and to recommit ourselves to fighting like hell for the living.
First Contract Tentative Agreement Secured by AFM Local 47 Representatives
AFM Local 47 Business Representatives have reached a Tentative Agreement on their first contract—securing raises, protecting benefits, and winning strong job and grievance protections. Members will soon receive the full agreement for review and ratification.
