San Bernardino City USD Reopener MOU
CWA Local 9588 and SBCUSD have reached a tentative reopener agreement that updates wages, clarifies pay for partial and extended workdays, and expands access to health benefits for eligible substitutes. The agreement takes effect July 1, 2025, with all other contract terms remaining unchanged.
San Bernardino City USD Reopener Negotiations To Begin January 9
CWA Representatives will be meeting with the San Bernardino City Unified School District administrators to negotiate a reopener on January 9, 2026. Updates will come as soon as we can share.
American Federation of Musicians - Local 47 Bargaining Update
CWA representatives and members of the AFM bargaining unit have been in first-contract negotiations with AFM Local 47 since late August. While progress has been made—including tentative agreements on pensions, healthcare, and vacations—key issues like wages and job security remain unresolved. With changes in AFM leadership and bargaining representation ahead, negotiations are expected to continue as both sides work toward a final agreement.
Frontier Contract Ratified
CWA District 9 members at Frontier Communications recently ratified a strong new three-year contract, showcasing the power of member unity and mobilization. The agreement delivers wage increases, protects healthcare and job security, addresses the use of artificial intelligence, reduces outsourcing, and improves work/life balance—marking another major victory for CWA members nationwide.
CWA District 9 & Frontier Communications Tentative Agreement
CWA leadership has been notified that a Tentative Agreement has been reached between Frontier Communications and CWA’s elected Bargaining Committee. Local Executive Officers will review the agreement later this month, after which Local 9588 will schedule an explainer session and share its recommendation ahead of a member ratification vote.
Verizon Acquisition Update
CWA District 9 Vice President Frank Arce announced a significant agreement with Verizon Communications related to its acquisition of Frontier Communications. The agreement includes a commitment to hire 600 new union-represented employees, strong job security protections, and improved service quality standards—marking an important step forward for workers, customers, and the long-term strength of California’s communications workforce.
Champion Security Workers Ratify their First Contract
Champion Security workers have ratified their first-ever union contract with CWA Local 9588. Reached on April 9, 2025, the agreement sets clear standards for wages, job classifications, scheduling, overtime, paid time off, seniority, and workplace safety. It also establishes strong job security protections, a just-cause discipline standard, and a fair grievance and arbitration process—laying the foundation for stability, accountability, and a stronger voice at work.
